Ms. Comfort Asoogo

Ms. Asoogo is an Oncology Nurse Specialist and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. Until her appointment, she was a Chief Nursing Officer at the Paediatric Oncology Unit of KATH.

Ms. Asoogo brings to her new position a wealth of academic excellence and professional expertise. She holds a Fellow with Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Cape Town, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Oncology Nursing and a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Administration from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology South Africa.

Additionally, she obtained a Paediatric Oncology Nursing Associate Certificate from the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, a Diploma in General Nursing from Kumasi Nurses and Midwifery Training College, and a Certificate in Community Health Nursing from Tamale Community Health Nursing Training College. She also holds a Certificate in Introduction to Epidemiology, Monitoring and Evaluation from the University of Washington, 

Essentials of Caring for a Sick Child from University of Cape Town South Africa and Manual Lymph Drainage & Complete Decongestive Therapy from Norton School of Lymphedema USA.

She is a member of several prestigious international professional bodies, including the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), Childhood cancer International (CCI) and the Advanced Breast Cancer Global Alliance (ABC). She also serves as an executive member and Nurse Lead of the Childhood Cancer Society of Ghana, as well as the Nurse Lead for the WHO Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer.

 

In recognition of her academic excellence, Ms. Asoogo was inducted into the Golden Keys International Honour Society in 2009. Over the years, she has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Seed Grant for Cancer Health Systems Research (C/Can) in 2024, SIOP Nursing Quality improvement scholar 2024, SPARC (Seeding Progress and Resources for the Cancer Community) in 2017, and the prestigious NCI/NIH Fellowship on Cancer Prevention Summer Course in 2013.

 

She is also a recipient of the Margaret McNamara Educational Grant (MMEG) for women from developing countries at the University of Cape Town in 2010, as well as a University of Cape Town International Travel Scholarship in the same year. Earlier in her career, she received a two-year bursary from the Government of Ghana in collaboration with KATH in 2007 to specialize in Oncology Nursing at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa.

 

Ms. Asoogo has conducted extensive research in cancers, with several of her works published and presented at international conferences, contributing significantly to advancements in oncology nursing and paediatric cancer care.
