Strenthening Bonds: Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) CEO Pays Courtesy Call on External Stakeholders
In a move to foster stronger relationships and deepen partnerships with external stakeholders, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, and his management team have paid courtesy calls on some external partners of the hospital.
Accompanied by other members of his management, the visit was to enable the new CEO to formally introduce himself to, and discuss issues of mutual interest with the various heads of the organizations visited.
The team met the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Metro Director of Department of Urban Roads, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Central Command, Ghana Armed Forces, Commander of Fourth Infantry Battalion (4BN), Regional Commander of Ghana Immigration Service(GIS) and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
In separate interactions with the heads, Prof. Addai-Mensah emphasized that the hospital was mandated and remained committed to the provision of quality specialist healthcare to the public.
He said there was no way the hospital could effectively deliver on this mandate without the right contributions and partnerships with its internal and external stakeholders, hence, his courtesy calls on key institutions in the region to see how they could all support the operations of the hospital.
Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, Regional Director of Health Services, acknowledged that KATH had over the years been overloaded with referred cases due to its position as the sole tertiary hospital in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
He said this state of affairs has adversely affected the hospital’s operations but was hopeful that the situation would change by the end of the year when the 500-bed Afari Military Hospital and the 250-bed Regional Hospital at Sewua were expected to be completed and operationalized.
Dr. Tinkorang said the support of KATH and School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) of KNUST would be very crucial in getting the two new hospitals fully functional soon upon their completion and discussions have already commenced to this effect.
At the Ghana Immigration Services, the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Charles Bediako, gave the assurance that his outfit would be more than willing to provide any assistance that the hospital would need given the strategic role it plays as the sole tertiary facility in the region.
The Metro Engineer of the Department of Urban Roads, Mr. Atta Poku, recounted an instance when the quick and expert intervention of doctors at KATH saved a staff of the department for which his outfit would forever be grateful to the hospital. The department had overseen the execution of some roadworks at the hospital and more would be done to support the operations of the hospital, he assured.
Major Sarfo Dapaah, Commander of 4BN, congratulated Prof. Addai-Mensah on his appointment as KATH CEO and assured him of the utmost support of his unit to ensure that the hospital and its staff operate in safety.
The GOC, Central Command, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh, commended KATH for the provision of specialist clinical services to his staff in the absence of a specialist military hospital in the region. He said his command was looking forward to strengthening the existing collaboration between the two institutions for their mutual benefit.
