Professor DR. Otchere Addai-Mensah Assumes Duty as New KATH CEO
Prof. Dr. Otchere Addai-Mensah has formally assumed duty as the new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi following his recent nomination to the position by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
The Board Chairman of the hospital, Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, presided over a short handing over ceremony to mark the formal assumption of duty of Prof. Addai-Mensah. The new Ag. CEO’s substantive appointment is expected to be finalised by the hospital Board soon after going through the due processes outlined under the Public Services Commission guidelines on such appointments.
Dr. Kwadwo Sarbeng, the Medical Director of the hospital who was appointed to act temporarily in that position after the retirement of the immediate past CEO of the hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, presented the handing over notes to Prof. Dr. Addai-Mensah to mark his assumption of office.
Dr. Sarbeng has subsequently urged all Directors and members of staff to give Prof. Addai-Mensah their fullest support to enable him succeed as he assumes the challenging duty of managing the second largest teaching hospital in the country.
Prof. Addai-Mensah until his appointment was an Associate Professor of Haematology, Immunology and Global Health in the Department of Medical Diagnostics and the Vice-Dean of Students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He is a trained medical doctor and holds a BSc in Human Biology and an MBChB (General Medicine) from the then School of Medical Sciences of the KNUST. He also holds a MSc. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Westminster in London-UK, and a PhD. in Immunology and Biotechnology from the prestigious RWTH University in Aachen, Germany.
He previously worked as a Researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology in Germany, and as a Resident in the Department of Pathology at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
He is a member of the board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Ghana, the National Vice President of the University Teachers Association (UTAG-KNUST and Ghana), a member of both the British Society of Immunology and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
Prof. Addai-Mensah has extensive experience in scientific research and general management, and has a number of publications in reputable journals to his credit. His research interests are in Infectious Diseases, Malariology, Biomedical Sciences, Immuno-epidemiology, Haematology, Immunology, Transfusion Medicine and Public Health.
